About the client:
Our client is a manufacturer based in the Middle East, employing over 1,000 people across three sites that include both corporate offices and production facilities. Microsoft 365 was already the backbone of daily operations: Exchange Online for email, Teams for internal and supplier communication, SharePoint and OneDrive handling document flow between engineering, procurement, and finance.
Entra ID managed identity, and the company held Intune and Defender licensing, though much of it was unused. What leadership wanted wasn't a quick fix. They needed a security posture that could be measured, sustained, and eventually run by their own team.
Challenges:
- No documented runbooks, meaning response quality depended on who was on shift
- External sharing links created without oversight, some active long after a project's end
- Inconsistent compliance enforcement across Windows endpoints and mobile devices
- Business Email Compromise exposure due to weak authentication alignment (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
- Multi-Factor Authentication enabled for some groups but not enforced organization-wide
Solution:
Rather than bringing in consultants for a one-off project, the client opted for staff augmentation; specialists working side by side with internal IT, transferring knowledge as they went instead of handing off a report and leaving. Identity got locked down first, through Conditional Access, mandatory MFA, and just-in-time admin access via Privileged Identity Management.
